Outline: Unit 4 Chemistry consists of two Areas of study – ‘Industrial chemistry’ and ‘Supplying and using energy’. This lecture will focus on reviewing aspects of the key knowledge associated with both areas including: collision theory, energy profiles, equilibria, the equilibrium law and Le Chatelier’s principle, pH, acidity constants, factors associated with the production of designated industrial chemicals, comparison of energy sources; calorimetry as a means of measuring energy changes, the use of the electrochemical series and its limitations, the construction and operation of primary and secondary cells, fuel cells and electrolytic cells, and Faraday’s laws. Outline: This lecture will explore the essential features of writing for success in each of the three equally-weighted sections of the final 31st October 3 hour VCE English exam. Since this exam format for the new Year 12 course has changed from 2007, it is essential that students are accurately informed about what can be anticipated.
It will dissect and examine the various textual elements with which students need to be confidently acquainted for success in Section A, Text Response. Common strengths and weaknesses in developing effective text response essays will be examined, based on the actual exam experiences of past students.
There will also be considerable focus on Section B, Writing in Context, a totally new component. All four set VCAA Contexts will be examined, with a clear emphasis on the writing expectations sought by Assessors. Approaching the given prompt, using ideas from set texts and elsewhere and forms of writing will all be explored.
The essential skills of Language Analysis will also examined in detail, drawing on previous student exam experience. Students will be given detailed strategies to potentially maximise their English exam performance, and therefore both their English Study Score and ENTER score.

Outline: In this lecture we revise the VCAA Study Design for Specialist Mathematics. Topics covered include: Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometric Functions, Algebra and Complex Numbers, Calculus including applications of both Differentiation and Integration, Vectors in 2 and 3 dimensions and Mechanics.
The lecture improves skills and abilities in problem-solving and reinforces and enhances your knowledge of the mathematical ideas and concepts required for Specialist Mathematics. Students will receive detailed notes along with sample examination questions and solutions. The lecture provides preparation and revision for the examinations, by working through typical short answer questions for Exam 1 and multiple choice and non-routine analysis questions for Exam 2. The use of graphics calculators and their use in Exam 2, is integrated in the lecture.
