The Health & Human Development lecture will present a comprehensive overview of the Unit 3 coursework. This will include the key knowledge relating to the understanding of health and wellbeing, prerequisites of health as determined by the WHO. The indicators used to measure health will be explored. There will be a focus on how to use and interpret these measures, using data analysis skills. Factors that contribute to health will be explained with particular reference to the health of different population groups. The concepts of the old and new public health will be examined, and the use of the biomedical and social models of health that are used to promote health and wellbeing. The understanding of the PBS and the National Disability Insurance Scheme will be outlined, in addition to the role of health promotion in ensuring positive health status. Examples of initiatives that promote healthy eating will be presented. There will also be a focus on recent past VCAA exam questions and the skills needed for interpreting and responding to these questions.
